Top Ten Basketball Movies: #6

We are only a few days away from the start of our Basketball season! And to help kick things off I will be counting down the top 10 basketball movies over the next 10 days. This list is solely my opinion and I respect the fact that other fans of these movies may have a different order. Nevertheless these are still great movies about Basketball!

#6: Love & Basketball (2000)20121023-185208.jpg

Love & Basketball is the story of a young couple that struggles with their individual careers in basketball and their up and down romance. Quincy McCall (played by Omar Epps) and Monica Wright (played by Sanaa Lathan) grew up next to each other since they were 11 years old and have always had a bond to one another by way of basketball. Eventually they begin to date after High School while they both attended and play for the University of Southern California. During this time life, family and careers strain their relationship to the point of them breaking up. After each of them reaches the pros they are given one more chance to make their relationship work.

This is a very well made movie with some great characters that really make you care about their outcomes. The romantic elements aren’t super sappy for the macho men out there but the movie is sensitive enough for the Mrs. to enjoy. Basketball really is the center point and driving force in this movie and it’s evident in how the director uses the games and practices to further the story. The basketball elements in the movie were very well done and believable even by the most critical of fans. Overall it’s a very solid movie and a good date night basketball movie that even the ladies will watch.
